Zachran Jídlo: Fighting Food Waste at every step of the Food Chain
Zachran Jídlo is a Czech non-governmental organization that combats food waste by connecting and engaging actors present all along the food chain. The young co-founders decided in 2013 to raise awareness about food waste both among the urban population and the local rural producers and farmers. In 2014, the initiative extended its combat with campaigns to accustom customers to vegetables with low appearance standards. Their successful approach has been to bring back to light “Gleaning” practices and achieve to supply with fresh nutrients local food banks.

This project aims at improving livelihoods of 450 smallholder coffee women farmers in western Kenya by promoting sustainable production and trade through implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies which include Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and construction of domestic biogas units as an alternative to firewood and charcoal.
